Profit & Loss
🔑
1. Base Formulas (The Foundation)
If you Gained
$$ \text{Profit \%} = \frac{SP - CP}{CP} \times 100 $$
If you Lost
$$ \text{Loss \%} = \frac{CP - SP}{CP} \times 100 $$
🔑
2. False Weight Trick
The Cheat Formula
$$ \text{Profit \%} = \left( \frac{\text{Extra Gain}}{\text{Actual Given}} \right) \times 100 $$
🔑
3. The "Assume CP = 100" Hack
When a question only gives you percentages (e.g., "A profit of 20% is made..."), stop using "x". Assume the Cost Price is 100. It makes the math incredibly easy and saves about 30–40 seconds per question.
🔑
4. Successive Discount Shortcut
Don't calculate discounts one by one. Use the effective discount formula:
$$ \text{Effective Discount} = a + b - \frac{ab}{100} $$
Example: 10% and 20% off → 10 + 20 - 2 = 28% total discount.
🌟 Topper's Mindset
1
If Profit % = Discount %, use the square rule to find MP quickly.
2
Always check if "Cost Price is an Integer"—it helps eliminate 2–3 options immediately.
